19 Nov BankHouse November Update
Another year unraveled with the festive season upon us, and what a year it has been. With the 3rd exhibition now well under way and BankHouse Originals still growing strong. The garden hedges and every nook is full with nesting birds echoing a consistent sound of tweeting and chirping, the new BankHouse roof shining bright keeping all the treasures safe inside. I have been doing a bit of nesting myself as l do every year in search of wonderful gifts for the giving with still more arriving weekly; vintage delights, for example an exquisite set of 10 Murano hand painted champagne flutes, handmade homewares, jewellery or beautifully illustrated children’s books to name a few.
The ‘High Tea’ exhibition opening on Sunday 5th Nov. was a great success with art lovers from across the Northern Rivers enjoying an afternoon of lively conversations, good food, the sound of live music drifting through the crowd and the odd champers; all showing appreciation and in support of local artist Christine Spedding. Please take the time to view the complete exhibition before the 5th December as it will then be incorporated into the BankHouse Gallery Group Christmas displays.
The ritual of High Tea was an inaugural part of my growing up, silver, ceramic, china tea pots, delicate floral china and gold teacups, baked items, delicate sandwiches, dressing up, games and discussions, a parade of visual and tasty treats and incidental learning.
I have tried to capture this nostalgic feeling within my paintings, concentrating on the era of the tea pot and the subject to pair with it. Colour, form and detail are highly important in my works.”
The exhibition will run until 5th December and then be incorporated into the BankHouse Christmas displays.
