John Reeves

John has been a practising artist since the early 1970s. He was inspired to paint after travelling around Australia as a young man.

Art has since become a passionate part of his life and he continues to be inspired by nature’s images and colours. He enjoys capturing the changing seasons and moods of the Australian countryside in his more traditional style, usually using oils. Australian Flora and Fauna feature in the larger acrylic works against colourful abstract backgrounds. Landscape elements sometimes appear in these, reflecting John’s love of the country.

Moving to the Tabulam area in 2013, John is enjoying discovering this new environment. The many bird species that abound around the home and studio offer constant subject matter.

John studied with Vera Abberley in Brisbane and was also influenced by Eric Whisson and Rex Bachhaus-Smith.

In the past few years John has travelled into new country and has spent time with other artists, enjoying the grandeur and peace of such places as the Blue Mountains,  the plains of western NSW, Carnarvon Gorge and Mt Moffatt National Parks, Queen Mary Falls area, Richmond Range NSW and South Island NZ .

John’s paintings are in great demand, in both his traditional and contemporary styles.  He has taught in many areas of regional Queensland since 1985. John’s work is represented in private collections in the U.K. Australia, New Zealand and India.
